SUMMARY:Records Management in a Changing Environment – University of Toronto – February 6, 2015
DESCRIPTION:I will be teaching this course as part of University of Toronto’s Certificate in Records Management Practice.  Note that this course and the certificate is identical to previous years, but instead of being offered by the U of T iSchool Institute, it is now part of the School of Continuing Studies.  More information regarding this change can be found in this blog post ( https://eimc.ca/university-torontos-rm-certificates/ ).\n[framed_box width=”90%” bgColor=”#FCECFF” align=”center”]\nThe practice of records management is constantly evolving in response to changes in information technology, business practices, legislation, and economic and social factors. In order to play an integral role in managing those changes, Records Managers must understand how the external environment influences and even forces changes in the way information is managed. This course, offered in partnership with the Faculty of Information, examines several changes that are impacting records management as organizations rapidly move to a digitized world.\n\nDiscuss the records management implications of Web 2.0 technologies (e.g. blogs, social networking, etc.)\nDescribe the differences between e-mail management and e-mail archiving, and the pros and cons of each approach\nExplain how a Records Management Program can assist an organization to identify sources of electronic evidence and produce that evidence when required during electronic discovery (e-discovery)\nDiscuss the importance of digital preservation for ensuring information of continuing value remains accessible and usable for as long as necessary\n\n[/framed_box]\nThe official course description is here, and includes links for online registration.\n
