DESCRIPTION:I will be teaching this course as part of University of Toronto’s Certificate in Records Management Practice.  Note that this course and the certificate is identical to previous years, but instead of being offered by the U of T iSchool Institute, it is now part of the School of Continuing Studies.  More information regarding this change can be found in this blog post ( https://eimc.ca/university-torontos-rm-certificates/ ).\n[framed_box width=”90%” bgColor=”#FCECFF” align=”center”]\nThis course examines the aspects of Canadian law that affect the management of records, provides guidance in researching legislated records retention requirements and limitation periods in Canadian statutes and regulations, and identifies selected U.S. laws (e.g. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act) that may affect the record keeping practices of Canadian businesses. Students will learn through examples and exercises.\n\nDescribe how various types of legislation (e.g. privacy acts, evidence acts, etc.) may affect record keeping.\nIdentify which jurisdiction (federal and/or provincial/territorial) may have passed laws affecting the retention requirements for a record series\nExplain how selected U.S. laws may affect the record keeping practices of Canadian businesses.\nIdentify the legislative status of a bill.\nResearch legislated records retention requirements and limitation periods using print and electronic resources.\n\n[/framed_box]\nThe official course description is here, and includes links for online registration.\n
